Program Highlights

When you major in Spanish at USCA, you’ll benefit from:

  • A two-week study abroad opportunity. Master your Spanish with an immersive trip to Spain during the “Maymester” term. Spanish majors spend two weeks studying at Universitas Castellae in Valladolid, Spain. Not only will you take intensive Spanish courses, but you will also stay with a Spanish-speaking host family. This experience includes cultural experiences in the evening and a guided excursion to Segovia over the weekend.
  • A diverse faculty. Our faculty’s research interests encompass the entire Spanish-speaking world, from the Iberian Peninsula to Latin America, the Caribbean, and even the Philippines. You will be taught by both native Spanish and native English speakers, giving you exposure to different perspectives for approaching the language and cultures of the Spanish-speaking world.
  • Small class sizes. The Spanish section of the Department of Languages, Literatures, and Cultures at USCA is small and intimate. Upper-level Spanish courses can have as few as six to eight students. You will have the chance to form connections with familiar faces as you complete your Spanish degree.
  • Opportunities for internships. If you major in Spanish Translation & Interpretation, you can explore the many jobs available for Spanish speakers by completing an internship. These internships are directed by our Translation & Interpretation specialist and provide hands-on experience using Spanish in the professional world.

"The Spanish language education that I received at USCA has been invaluable throughout my medical career. I have seen the eyes of my Spanish-speaking patients light up again and again when they realize that I can understand what they are saying and know what is bothering them."
