Research Opportunities

Our undergraduate and graduate psychology students have been busy! Read about their accomplishments below. If you are interested in research experience with a faculty member, please get in touch with us directly!

Research Sequence

Interested students may contact the faculty member with whom they are interested in doing research and fill out the Independent Study/Internship Contract.

PSYC  298  Introduction to Psychological Research  (1)     

An introduction to the research process through participation in lab meetings of one or more psychology faculty. May be repeated once for credit. It may not be used for major credit. (Pass/Fail only)

Ideal for Freshman

PSYC  398  Intermediate Psychological Research  (1-3)

Students will participate in ongoing psychological research. Students must produce a written or oral report of their research activities. May be repeated for a maximum of 3 credit hours. It may not be used for major credit. (Pass/Fail only)

Ideal for Sophomores/Juniors

PSYC  498  Advanced Psychological Research  (1-3)          

Students will take responsibility for developing and conducting a research project within the context of ongoing departmental projects. Students will be expected to produce a written or oral report of results. May be repeated for a maximum of 6 credit hours.  A maximum of 3 hours of PSYC 498 or PSYC 598 may be used for Psychology major credit.

Ideal for advanced Juniors/Seniors

PSYC  598  Senior Research Thesis  (3)                            

Students will conduct an original research project under the instructor’s supervision. Students will be expected to complete a thesis proposal, a thesis defense, and a written or oral report of results. May be repeated for a maximum of 6 credit hours. A maximum of 3 hours of PSYC 498 or PSYC 598 may be used for Psychology major credit.

Ideal for Seniors interested in graduate school
