Location

Discovery Camps take place at the Ruth Patrick Science Education Center and have sometimes included other learning venues like Riverbanks Zoo, Hitchcock Woods, SC Aquarium, Lake Thurmond, the Audubon Center, Augusta Canal and Interpretive Center, and many more. Details of field trips will be sent to parents in advance.

This camp is designed to inspire students through innovative, hands-on projects and challenges designed to propel them to Tech Readiness. Campers will gain an edge in STEM while making friends and learning basic coding skills and applying those skills in various ways, including coding robotic objects.

The Outsiders

Campers will travel by bus to explore the amazing wonders that can be found at Silver Bluff Audubon Center, Hitchcock Woods, and Bridgestone Environmental Learning Center. Campers will enjoy nature walks, hands-on science activities, crafts, and games, all while gaining a better understanding of the everyday wonders around us! Base camp will be at the RPSEC.

Cyber/Coding Patriots 

July 11-15, 2022 • 8:30am-3:00pm, Drop off 8-8:30am, Pick-up 3-3:30pm

This dual coding and cyber patriot camp is designed to inspire middle grade students through innovative, hands-on projects and challenges designed to propel them to Tech Readiness. The Cyber portion of the camp is designed as part of the National Youth Cyber Education Program created by the Air Force Association (AFA) to inspire K-12 students toward careers in cybersecurity or other science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) disciplines critical to our nation’s future. ​ Campers will learn basic coding skills (including coding robotic objects), be introduced to cybersecurity & careers, cyber ethics, online safety, cyber threats​, cybersecurity principles, account management, file protections and more.   Basic knowledge of computer hardware (knowing how to use a mouse, browse the internet, identify common computer icons, etc.) is helpful but not necessary.

STEM Forward Career Exploration 

July 18-22, 2022 • 8:30am-4:00pm, Drop off 8-8:30am, Pick-up 4-4:30pm

Rising 9-12 Graders

Base Price $215 (You Pay Only $25)$190  Workforce Opportunities in Regional Careers (WORC) scholarship available to ALL campers

Learn about the vast STEM carer opportunities from real-world STEM experts.- Discover the different job roles in STEM – The area’s top experts will guide students through different career paths and how to get started.· Participate in hands-on workshops – These hands-on sessions are designed to help students learn in a safe and fun environment, and do what STEM professionals do every day.· Visit STEM professionals in the field – Participants will learn directly in the field from our mentoring STEM professionals. Whether it is visiting a meteorologist on a television set, meeting with a drone pilot to experience flying one, exploring the Thurmond Dam to learn about hydropower from the Corp of Engineers, discovering robotics and how they are used at SRS from a robotics engineer, visiting SREL to meet with a wildlife biologist, traveling to the SRS Museum to learn about the rich STEM history and career focus of the area and more, the campers will be immersed into the STEM professional community.

Junior Explorers

July 18 - 22, 2022 • 8:30am-3:00pm, Drop off 8-8:30am, Pick-up 3-3:30pm

Rising 1-2

Become a junior explorer at this fun-filled camp with interactive, hands-on individual and group activities. Each day will bring exciting adventures as students explore STEM related topics. We will enjoy engaging story times, creative craft projects, guided outdoor hikes, and up-close animal interactions. Discovery destinations include Hitchcock Woods and the DuPont Planetarium.

Extended Care (Before and After Care)

CAMP INVENTION:
An Extended Camp experience is being provided to accommodate working families. Extended Camp hours are 7:30 AM to 5:30 PM and will be an additional cost per week. To sign up please select the Extended Camp option during checkout.

OTHER RPSEC SUMMER CAMPS:
An Extended Camp experience is being provided in the afternoon.

Cancellations/Refunds

Camp Invention

ALL Other Summer Camps

  • Refund Policy: 10 days prior to camp date, 75% refund less a $10 handling charge. 3-9 days prior, 50% refund less a $10 handling charge. <3 days prior, no refund. Please note: If a camp does not reach the minimum number of required campers by 3 weeks prior to the start date, RPSEC reserves the right to cancel the camp and refund 100% of tuition.

Food

Snacks and Lunch will NOT be provided by the Ruth Patrick Science Education Center. Campers must bring their own snacks and lunch. Snack and lunch breaks are supervised by Science Center educators.

Camp Check-In

All campers must check in and out with a parent or guardian daily. Any pick-up or drop-off changes should be turned in at that time.

Pick-Up

A parent or legal guardian must pick up children at the end of each program. Children will not be allowed to meet parents outside of the pick-up area. To ensure the safety of campers, we require advance written notice when anyone other than a parent or legal guardian will be picking up campers after the programs.

Short term parking is available in the parking lot in front of the RPSEC.
