Staff Positions

Post-Doctoral Researcher, USC Aiken Biology & Geology

Position Hire Type: Research Grant Position

Position Salary: $48,000 (not including fringes)

The Earth Surface Processes Lab is offering a 2-year (24 months) post-doctoral position in the Department of Biology and Geology at USC Aiken beginning July 4, 2023.  The post-doc will collaborate with the lead PI (Dr. Sullivan) to conduct field and lab work, field sample processing, data analysis and numerical model development pertaining to an ongoing 5-year externally funded project to study salt-marsh dynamics in the ACE Basin, SC. The post-doc will receive training on a Canberra HPGe Gamma Detector in order to estimate decadal sedimentation rates for three distinct salt marsh sites. Field estimates of yearly and decadal sedimentation rates and observed water level and current velocity time series will be used to develop hydro-morphodynamic models using Delft3D software. Importantly, the post doc will also play a key role in compiling and interpreting data generated by undergraduate students and will work with the PI and undergraduates to prepare manuscripts highlighting research outcomes. They will also present their work at national, regional, and local conferences.

The post-doc will have opportunities to build valuable connections in industry through collaborations with the ACE Basin NERR and SCDNR. They will also gain valuable teaching experience by lecturing in lower and upper-level geology courses, leading undergraduate field trips, and teaching lab sections. Moreover, to ensure that the post-doc becomes well-integrated into the department and university culture, they will be invited to join department meetings, faculty assemblies, and weekly department seminar sessions.

Minimum Requirements: A PhD in Geological Sciences or related field and proficiency using ArcGIS.

Enrollment Counselor (Stu Srvcs Pro Coord I) (2 positions available), Minimum Salary: $35,568 per year, USC Aiken Office of Admissions

The Enrollment Counselor represents USC Aiken in order to increase enrollment by recruiting new students by utilizing CRM, student information system, territory management, and all available resources. Increases prospects and family visits to campus and creates additional student applications for admission. Contributes as part of a results driven team of enrollment management officers and effectively manages assigned territory to increase inquiries, applications, admits, and enrollees. Extensive in-state travel along with some night and weekend work is required.

Minimum qualifications: Bachelor’s degree; a valid driver’s license; Employee will travel extensively in-state and work some nights and weekends.  Excellent written and oral communication skills required. Director of Alumni Relations (Alumni/Development Mngr I), Minimum Salary: $51,586 per year, USC Aiken Alumni Relations

Under limited supervision, reporting to the Vice Chancellor for Development & Alumni Affairs, the Director of Alumni Relations develops and coordinates a comprehensive Alumni Program with the Alumni Board and internal leaders. He/she leads a strategic plan to offer engagement, involvement, and philanthropic activities for the 20,000+ alumni and their families.  Bachelor’s degree and 3 years related experience in an area such as alumni development, fundraising, prospect research, or business development.   Experience in Blackbaud CRM/Data Management & event planning preferred.  Possess the ability to establish good working relationships with alumni, students, donors, businesses and the general public; ability to relate fund raising programs to university goals and objectives. Must be available to work flexible hours and travel, and must be proficient using computers and standardized fundraising software. Must have great public relations skills. Must have experience with balancing and managing the needs of multiple development programs and/or officers. High rate of accuracy; excellent proofreading; high level of concentration. Dean of Library – USC Aiken

The University of South Carolina Aiken invites applications and nominations for the position of Library Dean. The Library Dean reports directly to the Provost, and is responsible for strategic leadership, administrative management and supervision of the Gregg-Graniteville Library. Specific responsibilities include:

  • Working collaboratively with Library faculty and staff to fulfill the campus's educational and research mission. Accomplishing this through leadership in the provision of library resources and services;
  • Directing the Library’s long-term and strategic planning;
  • Fostering cooperative relationships across campus, the USC system, and the statewide academic library consortium to enhance resources and services available to the USCA community;
  • Advocating for collections and resources on campus;
  • Keeping abreast of the latest developments in academic libraries and higher education;
  • Leading library efforts to support the commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion;
  • Building and sustaining strategic and innovative library initiatives, including open access and open educational resources;

Minimum Qualifications

  • American Library Association (ALA) accredited master’s degree in library science or equivalent degree;
  • 5+ years of academic library experience;
  • 3+ years of successful progressive library leadership and/or supervisory experience;
  • Achievements in librarianship, service, and scholarship commensurate with appointment to the tenured rank of Associate or Full Professor;
  • Demonstrated experience directing and evaluating library operations, including strategic planning and fiscal resource management;
  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion;
  • Demonstrated commitment to student-focused library initiatives and services;
  • Demonstrated excellence in communication, problem solving, organization, and interpersonal skills;
  • Knowledge of trends and best practices in library science and higher education.

  • A second masters or doctorate;
  • Experience with tenure processes, especially mentoring tenured and non-tenured faculty;
  • Strong record of success in developing and implementing flexible approaches or innovations amid changes in scholarly communication;

  • Record of building strong campus and community relationships.

Instructor of Philosophy—University of South Carolina Aiken

The Department of History, Political Science, and Philosophy at the University of South Carolina Aiken (USC Aiken) invites applications for an Instructor of Philosophy to start August 16, 2023. This position primarily serves engineering majors; students minoring in philosophy, pre-law, and religious studies; and general education students. Responsibilities include a 4-4 teaching load in philosophy and religious studies (Engineering Ethics, Introduction to Formal Logic, Introduction to Asian Religions and Philosophies, and additional philosophy and possibly religious studies courses), as well as service to the department, university, profession, and community. The successful candidate will be expected to teach in person every semester, with likely online teaching as well.

Assistant Professor of Computer Science – Data Science 

The Department of Computer Science, Engineering, & Mathematics at University of South Carolina Aiken (USC Aiken) offers Bachelor of Science in Applied Computer Science and is in the process of establishing a concentration in data science. Our rapidly growing department invites applications for an Assistant Professor, tenure-track faculty position in computer science to begin on August 16, 2023, with a focus on data science.

Applicants must have a Ph.D. in computer science or a related field by August 16, 2023, with expertise and interest in data science; potential for effective teaching at the undergraduate level using engaged learning strategies appropriate to the discipline and level (normal teaching load is 12 hours per semester); and demonstrated scholarly productivity. Successful candidates must have the qualifications and interest in teaching a wide range of data science related courses. Additional experience in other areas such as AI and Cyber is a plus. Candidates are expected to keep an active research group involving undergraduate students and seek external funding. Salary commensurate with qualifications and teaching experience.
